Welcome to the Palabra Center
Through mindfulness, embodiment, writing, and self-compassion, spiritually and psychologically curious individuals will find pathways back home to themselves.
Hi, I’m Dr. Marianela Medrano.
I offer spiritually and psychologically curious individuals ways to find pathways back home—through mindfulness, embodiment, writing, and self-compassion.
We are traversing global crises calling for effective transformations. We must create an inner world that revolutionizes the outer world. These times call for collective conscious evolution. Meditation, curiosity, compassion, introspection, and openness are some ingredients we need to create that conscious evolution.
Both indigenous wisdom and contemporary science point to attention to the interconnectedness of it all. Disconnections from our creative sources and our capacity to wonder and be in awe with the pluriverse potentially can cause traumas, personally and collectively. We belong to the pluriverse. As a writer and psychotherapist, my work leans on universal love, the compassion of gift economy and reciprocity, and the comfort of communal support. These elements can invigorate and guide us to the new story that will replace the current, individualist one we are carrying.
bell hooks, a wise star who illuminated the earth with her wisdom and who advocated for love as the antidote against a narcissistic and selfish culture, says:
“Moving from solitude into community heightens our capacity for fellowship. Through fellowship, we learn how to serve one another. Service is another dimension of communal love.”
Learn How We Can Collaborate
I enjoy fusing traditions that step outside the confines of individuality and feed the human yearning for connection and belonging. These traditions have shaped my life.
I will teach you new ways to create change, such as Juntas or Convites, practiced in agricultural societies in the Dominican Republic. And the concept of Interbeing, an approach introduced to the West by the Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk and founder of Plum Village, an intentional community in South France that is now replicated in other countries.
I will also connect you with approaches with similar orientations, such as Vincularidad, Ubuntu, and Pluriversidad, to shape a new consciousness. Such practices invite us to "take perspective on perspectives," as Arturo Escobar explains in his explanation of a pluriverse. Escobar invites us to see ourselves not as part of a universe but as a pluriverse where all, and he means all, is vinculado, interconnected.
